Documenting the adaptation experiences and integration process of student refugees at Vanier College
With the recent influx of 40 000 refugees resettling into Canada from Syria, significant demographic, economic, and cultural shifts are occurring within our local communities. In fact, Vanier College is now home to a growing number of Syrian refugees. The resettlement realities and the facets of integration for Syrian refugee students at the CEGEP level have not yet been closely examined and brought to light.
Therefore, I propose to conduct a research project that will document the integration experiences of student refugees who are studying at Vanier College by incorporating and highlighting student refugee voices, their narratives, and insight.
By doing so, the research findings will ultimately provide teachers, administrators, and student counselors the ability to adequately assist and support this new segment of the Vanier student population.
